Treasurer, a Korean piece investment company, has been selected as a consulting support company by the Artificial Intelligence Industry Convergence Agency (AICA) and participated in the 'Open Data Science Conference West 2023 (DOSC West 2023)' held in Silicon Valley, USA, aiming to enter the global market.

DOSC West is an international conference in data science and machine learning where the latest data science and artificial intelligence trends are discussed and shared. Through this conference, Treasurer expects to showcase its innovative piece investment platform on the international stage and strengthen connections and cooperation with the global community.

Treasurer said of this conference, “Participating in DOSC West 2023 is a stepping stone for us to showcase and develop our services and innovations on the international stage,” and “to become more aware of Korea’s capabilities in the fields of data science and artificial intelligence. “We look forward for quality consulting opportunities to expand our services overseas.”

Treasurer participates in ‘DOSC WEST 2023’

Treasurer, a platform specializing in luxury goods and collectibles investment, announced on the 6th that it has been selected for the 'CORE 100' program in 2023, an initiative organized by Invest Seoul.

The 'CORE 100', officially launched in February last year by Invest Seoul, is designed to enhance the attraction of foreign investments. The program identifies companies, termed as 'CORE 100', that are keen on attracting overseas investments. It then assists them in garnering new feasibility on expanding their channels primarily by actively promoting to international investors.

Treasurer stated that, “Being chosen for the 'CORE 100' gives us a significant opportunity to expedite our growth in the global market and pursue aggressive investment attraction strategies.” The official further elaborated, “We are enhancing our expertise across various domains, including marketing, networking, investors matching, and providing legal and financial consulting services.” He concluded by expressing confidence in the program’s potential to boost Treasurer’s efforts in attracting foreign investments and expanding their presence in the global market.

Invest Seoul designated Treasurer as “CORE 100 Company”

SK Securities announced on the 3rd that it has initiated a new alliance services with piece investment corporates.

This innovative collaboration involves three major piece investment companies: 'Funble', 'Seoul Auction Blue', and 'Treasurer'. Each of these companies is recognized as a fintech specialist, offering unique platforms for investing in real estate, art, and high value collectibles in sequence.

This service is the first phase in the promotion of piece investment partnerships, offering information content such as Funble’s housing subscriptions, special supply opportunities, and key real estate indicators, Seoul Auction Blue's art market analysis and art information, as well as luxury goods and wine collections information from Treasurer. All SK Securities customers can easily access these services through the Mobile Trading System (MTS) 'Frequency 3'.

Looking ahead, the second stage of this initiative involves developing an Application Programming Interface (API) linkage system. This system aims to facilitate the integration of assets from piece investment companies. The launch of this advanced feature is targeted for the first half of the next year.

SK Securities commented that "we're aiming to demystify piece investments for our customers, offering them a diverse investment portfolio. This service is just the beginning. We plan to extend our partnerships with piece investment companies and are looking to create new opportunities in the blockchain startup space, particularly focusing on expanding the token securities ecosystem." Treasurer successfully secured funds for their business. Treasurer is a luxury collectible investment platform that allows fractional investments in high-value collectibles such as luxury watches, fine wines, rare whiskies, and more, starting from as little as 1,000 KRW.

Since the launch of its fractional investment service in 2021, Treasurer has amassed over 600,000 users. With a total of 184 blue-chip products available for fractional investment, it has experienced rapid growth. Eighty-four of these products have been successfully sold, with an average return rate of 8.9%, and the highest recorded return rate reaching 43.3% as of October 2023.

In the recent Series A fundraising round, Dunamis Asset Management participated as an investor.

Dunamis Asset Management, established in 2021, has emerged as a prominent player in the asset management industry, achieving approximately 5.2 billion KRW in operating profit only in their first year.

Treasurer plans to utilize this investment to diversify its fractional collectible offerings, enhance its price crawling engine, develop advanced social investment platform features, and recruit top talent in the industry.

[By Kim Yeon-ji, Economist Market-in] Kim, a resident of Seoul, unexpectedly met a Hong Kong millionaire, an alternative investment expert. Learning that the Hong Konger invested in wine bottles priced at KRW 20 millioneach, Kim skeptically thought, "It's just WINE," yet decided to experience alternative investing himself by purchasing half a bottle worth approximately at KRW 10 million.

A few months later, Kim successfully sold the invested wine for more than double its purchase price because the wine's rarity increased due to the deteriorating health of the winery's owner, creating a buzz in the market.

This incident from 2020 is an anecdote shared by Kim Kyung-tae, the CEO of 'Treasurer', a local platform offering fractional investments based on collectibles. Treasurer allows anyone to invest, starting from KRW 1,000 (approximately $1), by breaking down high-value items—such as luxury watches, fine wines, and branded bags—into fractional shares.

Meeting Kim Kyung-tae face-to-face, at his office in Sinsa-dong, Seoul, he emphasized that fractional investing provides a gateway for smaller investors to dabble in high-end assets. “It's gaining traction” he says, “especially among the MZ generation”.

Kim pointed out that fractional investments make up a significant portion of global magnates' portfolios. "According to the Wells Report, amidst financial market uncertainties, global magnates are diversifying their portfolios, with alternative investments constituting around 5%. Among these, collectibles account for a quarter. They view these alternative investments not as indulgences but as genuine investments."

The idea behind Treasurer was to make such collectible-based alternative investments accessible to mass, not just for the top layers. Kim says, "The younger generation tends to express themselves through collectibles rather than real estate or art. Our goal with Treasurer is to make it easier for everyone, especially the upcoming MZ generation, to invest in what they're passionate about." The platform has amassed over 400,000 users within just two years of its launch, with a diverse age distribution.

Treasurer's investment approach is simple: they buy rare collectibles, divide the ownership into shares, and offer these fractions to individual investors. Users can invest with as little as KRW 1,000. If the item's value goes up and is sold at a higher price, investors get back their initial investment amount with additional profit portion. For those daunted by the idea of buying expensive items outright, it's a perfect substitute. As for risks, Kim assured that they partnered with domestic and international insurance and trust companies for safe management.

Seasoned collectors turn hobby into profit, newcomers buy way into sports card investing game

"Hello, this is the bank. We are contacting you to confirm a recent deposit made into your account from the U.S. exceeding $20,000. Could you verify the purpose of this transaction?"

Koo Ja-kyung, a dentist based in Daejeon who received the call, responded in a surprisingly composed manner. "I recently auctioned a sports card I owned in the U.S., and it seems like the proceeds from the auction have been transferred."

With over 30 years of collecting experience under his belt, Koo said he had already anticipated a substantial return from that single sports card.

"The liquidity surge driven by COVID-19 has impacted not only the stock markets but also the world of sports cards," he explained. During the time, the price of a Fleer rookie card featuring basketball superstar Michael Jordan skyrocketed to more than $100,000, from its previous trading price hovering around $50,000.

Capitalizing on this trend, five months later, Koo sold off a card featuring basketball star Kevin Durant, which he had owned for over a decade.
